Henri J. M. Nouwen (1932–1996) was a spiritual writer and university professor. He left his academic career and joined the L’Arche movement founded by Jean Vanier, which promotes communal life with people with disabilities. Nouwen wrote more than 40 books on spirituality, and his works were translated into numerous languages.
