Harro von Senger (born 1944) is a Swiss lawyer and sinologist. He studied law, languages and culture in Taipei, Tokyo and Beijing, receiving a doctorate in law from the University of Zurich in 1969 and a doctorate in classical sinology from the University of Freiburg im Breisgau in 1981. From 1982 to 2020, he was an expert in Chinese law at the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law in Lausanne. From 1989 until his retirement, he taught sinology at the University of Freiburg. He became known to a wider audience particularly through his book “36 Stratagems,” which has been translated into numerous languages.
