Hans van Ess

Hans van Ess is a scholar of Sinology who was a professor at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. His academic leadership positions included serving as vice president of the university and, from 2015, president of the Max Weber Foundation. His publications include The Daoism (2011), The 101 Most Important Questions: China (2020), Chinese Philosophy (2021), and an annotated new translation of the Analects of Confucius (2023).
