Hans Scheugl

Author · 1 book

Hans Scheugl is an Austrian filmmaker and author. His 16mm films frequently explored the relationship between real time and film time, while his expanded-cinema actions examined film as material and idea. In 1968, he co-founded the Austria Filmmakers Cooperative with Ernst Schmidt Jr., Kurt Kren, Peter Weibel, Valie Export, and Gottfried Schlemmer. During the 1980s and 1990s, he made feature-length and documentary films, including works for Austrian television broadcaster ORF. From the 1960s onward, Scheugl published in journals and catalogues and, from 1974, wrote books on film, visual arts, art, and philosophy. His work was presented at film festivals including those in Berlin, Rotterdam, New York, London, and Calcutta.
