Hans-Edwin Friedrich, born in 1959 in Prüm in the Eifel, studied German and history in Trier. From 1985 to 1990, he worked as a research assistant on a German Research Foundation project involving the transcription of Robert Musil’s literary estate. He received his doctorate in 1989 and his habilitation in 1998. After working at LMU Munich, he became Professor of Modern German Literature at Kiel University in 2007. His research focuses on literature from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century, literary theory, non-canonical literature, and media studies. His publications include works on the historical novel, literature and theology in the eighteenth century, and audiovisual media.
