Hamid Ismailov

Hamid Ismailov, born in 1954 in Tokmok in northern Kyrgyzstan, is a writer and journalist. As a young man, he attended a military school in Uzbekistan. He left the country in 1992 because of his political views. From 1994 to 2019, he worked as a journalist for the BBC World Service. In 2019, he received the EBRD Literature Prize for his novel “The Devil’s Dance” (also published as “Wonderkind Erjan”). His books have received numerous awards and have been translated into many languages.
