H. P. Lovecraft (Howard Phillips Lovecraft, 1890–1937) was an American writer of weird fiction and horror. He is best known for stories about the so-called Great Old Ones, which later became associated with the Cthulhu Mythos. His notable works include “Dagon,” The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, and At the Mountains of Madness. Lovecraft received little recognition during his lifetime, and his work gained wider acclaim only after his death. He showed an early interest in literature and began writing poetry as a child.
