Gudrun Ensslin (1940–1977) was a member of the left-wing extremist Red Army Faction (RAF). She grew up in a pastor’s family in Swabia. After her conditional release from prison in 1969, she went underground and was involved in several RAF attacks until her arrest in 1972. In October 1977, she died by suicide in Stuttgart-Stammheim Prison at the same time as Andreas Baader and Jan-Carl Raspe.
