Greg Egan (born 1961 in Perth, Australia) is an Australian science fiction author. He studied mathematics at the University of Western Australia and initially worked as a programmer. He published his first novel in 1983 and achieved international recognition with Quarantine (1991). His novels and short stories often combine science fiction with mathematical and scientific ideas. His work has received several awards, including the Kurd Laßwitz Award, the Hugo Award and multiple Seiun Awards.
