Gladys Mitchell

Gladys Maude Winifred Mitchell was born in Oxfordshire in 1901. She studied history in London and initially worked as a teacher. In 1929, she created the detective Beatrice Adela Lestrange Bradley, to whom she subsequently devoted more than sixty crime novels. Mitchell belonged to the British Detection Club and received the highest honor of the Crime Writers’ Association in 1976. She was also knowledgeable about the works of Sigmund Freud and interested in witchcraft.
