Giorgio Vasari (1511–1574) was an Italian painter and architect. Among his architectural works are the Uffizi in Florence. During his travels, he examined numerous works of art and collected written and oral testimonies. In 1550, he published the “Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects,” a major work on the art of the Italian Renaissance.
