Gerald Knaus

Gerald Knaus, born in Salzburg, is a policy analyst and co-founder and founding director of the think tank European Stability Initiative (ESI). He studied philosophy, politics and international relations in Oxford, Brussels and Bologna. Knaus was a founding member of the European Council on Foreign Relations and spent five years as an associate fellow at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. As an expert on refugees, migration and human rights, he has advised governments and institutions in Europe. In 2020, he published the book “Welche Grenzen brauchen wir?”, which became a SPIEGEL bestseller.
