Gaston Leroux

Gaston Leroux (1868–1927) was a French writer and journalist. After studying law in Paris, he initially worked as a lawyer and court reporter, writing for publications including L’Écho de Paris and Le Matin. From 1901 he worked as a foreign correspondent and reported from various countries in Europe, Africa, and Asia, including Russia and Morocco. In 1907 he turned to writing fiction full time. He became particularly known for the mystery novels The Mystery of the Yellow Room (1907) and The Phantom of the Opera (1910), which remain his best-known works.
