Fritz Rudolf Fries

Fritz Rudolf Fries (1935–2014) was a writer and translator. Born in Bilbao, he grew up there and in Leipzig. After studying Romance languages in Leipzig, he worked as an interpreter and translator from Spanish and French and served as a research assistant at the Academy of Sciences in Berlin. Fries engaged extensively with Spanish-language literature in his translations and essays. His awards included the Literature Prize of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and the Brandenburg Literature Prize.
