Friedl Benedikt was born in Vienna in 1916. She was the second-oldest daughter of Irma and Ernst Benedikt, the son of Moriz Benedikt, who was editor of the Neue Freie Presse until 1934. Following the Anschluss, she emigrated to Great Britain in 1938. She published three novels there between 1944 and 1950.
