Franz Josef Overbeck (born 1964) is a German Catholic bishop. He studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Münster and Rome and was ordained a priest in 1989. From 1990 to 1994, he served as a chaplain in Haltern. He subsequently became a cathedral vicar and rector of the German student residence in Münster. After completing his doctorate, he headed the Institute for the Diaconate and Pastoral Services in the Diocese of Münster and was responsible for the permanent diaconate. In 2009, he was appointed Bishop of Essen and, in 2011, Military Bishop for the German Bundeswehr.
