Franz Grillparzer

Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872) was an Austrian writer and a major dramatist. He studied law and political science in Vienna, joined the Hofkammer, the predecessor of the Austrian finance ministry, in 1815, and served as a playwright at Vienna’s Burgtheater from 1818 to 1823. From 1823 he worked again in the imperial financial administration; in 1847 he became a member of the Vienna Academy of Sciences.
