Ferdinand von Schirach (born 1964) is a writer and lawyer. After studying law in Bonn and completing his legal training, he worked in Berlin as a criminal defense lawyer. He gained particular recognition for his work as a defense attorney in the Berlin Wall shooting trials from 1991 to 2004. His first short-story collection, »Verbrechen«, was published in 2009. His notable works include the collections »Schuld«, »Strafe«, »Nachmittage« and »Kaffee und Zigaretten«, the novel »The Collini Case«, and the plays »Terror« and »Gott«. His books have been adapted for film and television and published in more than forty countries. Von Schirach has received numerous literary awards.
