Eugen Gomringer (born 1925 in Cachuela Esperanza, Bolivia) was a Bolivian-Swiss author and a co-founder of Concrete Poetry. He studied economics and art and literary history at the University of Bern and served as Max Bill’s secretary at the Ulm School of Design from 1954 to 1957. In 1953, he helped establish the art magazine “spirale.” From 1967 to 1985, he was head of cultural activities at Rosenthal AG. Gomringer taught aesthetics at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, becoming a professor there in 1978, and later held an honorary professorship in Schneeberg. His publications include “Konstellationen” (1953) and “Zur Sache der Konkreten” (1986). In 2000, he founded the Institute for Constructive Art and Concrete Poetry in Rehau. He received the Alice Salomon Poetry Prize in 2011.
