Ephraim Kishon (1924–2005), born Ferenc Hoffmann in Budapest, was an Israeli writer and satirist. After the Second World War, he studied sculpture and emigrated from Hungary to Israel in 1949. He became internationally known there for his humorous and satirical writing. His books were translated into numerous languages and became particularly popular in German-speaking countries.
