Edgar-Pierre Jacobs

Edgar-Pierre Jacobs (1904–1987) was a Belgian comic artist and writer. He initially pursued a career in the theatre and, while still a teenager, earned money producing illustrations for department-store catalogues. From 1942, he worked for the youth magazine Bravo, where he temporarily continued the newspaper strip Flash Gordon when wartime conditions interrupted its publication from the United States. After the strip was banned, Jacobs created the science-fiction comic The U-Rays. From 1944, he assisted Hergé with revising and colouring earlier Tintin stories. In 1946, Jacobs was among the co-founders of the magazine Tintin. Its first issue featured the debut of his series Blake and Mortimer, which he wrote and drew until his death. His final adventure remained unfinished and was later completed by Bob de Moor.
