Earl Derr Biggers

Earl Derr Biggers was from Warren, Ohio, and initially worked as a journalist for a newspaper in Cleveland. He became well known in 1913 with the novel “Seven Keys to Baldpate.” From 1925 onward, he wrote a total of six crime novels featuring the Chinese American detective Charlie Chan, whose character was based on the Hawaiian police officer Chang Apana. Several of the Charlie Chan novels were adapted into films and became popular in both the United States and China.
