Douglas Howard

Douglas A. Howard is a historian who was a professor of history at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His main areas of research are Turkey and the Ottoman Empire. As the child of an Air Force member, he lived in Turkey for extended periods on two occasions before completing high school. These early experiences shaped his lifelong interest in Turkish and Ottoman culture. In researching a comprehensive history of the Ottoman Empire, he spent more than ten years working in eight countries.
