Dirk Schmidt

Dirk Schmidt, born in 1964, studied history, German studies, and theater, film, and television studies at Ruhr University Bochum. After an early period as a screenwriter, he worked for decades as a copywriter and creative director at various advertising agencies. He wrote his first radio pieces while still a student. His first crime radio play appeared in 1993, followed by his debut novel, *Letzte Nacht in Queens*, in 2003. From 2011, Schmidt was responsible for the WDR Radio Tatort series featuring the “Task Force Hamm.” Suhrkamp published his thriller *Die Kurve* in 2025.
