Dietrich Schwanitz

Dietrich Schwanitz (1940–2004) was a German writer and scholar of English literature. He studied English, history and philosophy in Münster, London, Philadelphia and Freiburg. From 1978 to 1997, he was a professor of English literature at the University of Hamburg. He became known for novels including *Der Campus* (1995) and *Der Zirkel* (1998), as well as the knowledge book *Bildung* (1999). Schwanitz died in December 2004.
