Deniz Utlu, born in Hanover in 1983, studied economics in Berlin and Paris. From 2003 to 2014, he edited the cultural and social magazine »freitext«. He has written novels, essays, short stories, poetry and plays. His novels include »Die Ungehaltenen« (2014), »Gegen Morgen« (2019) and »Vaters Meer« (2023). »Die Ungehaltenen« was adapted for the stage at the Maxim Gorki Theater in 2015. Utlu has received, among other honors, the Alfred Döblin Prize and the Literature Prize of the City of Hanover.
