Dana Stabenow (born in 1952 in Anchorage, Alaska) wrote crime fiction and science fiction. She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in creative writing. Raised by her single mother, who worked on a fishing boat in the Gulf of Alaska, she drew on her knowledge of the region in her books. Her first Kate Shugak novel, In der Kälte Alaskas, received the Edgar Award. In 2007, the state of Alaska named her Artist of the Year.
