Cristina Rivera Garza

Cristina Rivera Garza was born in Matamoros, Mexico. Her work includes novels, short stories, poetry collections, and literary nonfiction. She is also a translator and literary critic and founded the creative-writing program in Spanish at the University of Houston. Her notable books include “Autobiografía del algodón” (2020), “Grievin. Dispatches from a Wounded Country” (2020), “El invencible verano de Liliana” (2021), and “New and Selected Stories” (2022). She received the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for “El invencible verano de Liliana.” Her other honors include a MacArthur Fellowship, the Anna Seghers Prize, the Donoso Prize, and the Mazatlán Prize.
