Colm Tóibín, born in 1955 in Enniscorthy, Ireland, is an Irish writer. His best-known novels include The South (1994), Brooklyn (2010), The Testament of Mary (2014), Nora Webster (2016), House of Names (2020), and The Magician (2021). His work has received, among other honors, the IMPAC Award and the David Cohen Prize for Literature. He received the Rathbones Folio Prize in 2022 for The Magician. Tóibín served as Laureate for Irish Fiction from 2022 to 2024. The film adaptation of his novel Brooklyn was nominated for several Oscars in 2016.
