Claudia Rapp

Claudia Rapp is a scholar of Byzantine history. She studied at the Free University of Berlin and received her doctorate from Oxford. Her academic career included professorships at Cornell University and the University of California, Los Angeles, where she taught until 2011, as well as a professorship in Byzantine Studies at the University of Vienna. Her research focuses on the social and cultural history of Late Antiquity and Byzantium, especially religious history and manuscript studies. In 2015, she received Austria’s Wittgenstein Prize. Her publications include *Holy Bishops in Late Antiquity* (2005) and *Brother-Making in Late Antiquity and Byzantium* (2016).
