Claude McKay (1889–1948) was a Jamaican-American writer and poet and an important voice of the Harlem Renaissance. His best-known works include the award-winning novel Home to Harlem (1928), Banjo (1929), Banana Bottom (1933), and Amiable With Big Teeth, published posthumously in 2017. He also published several volumes of poetry, including Harlem Shadows (1922), as well as a short-story collection, autobiographical works, and the social history Harlem: Negro Metropolis.
