He became known primarily for young adult and all-ages fiction, including the Star Wars: Aftermath trilogy and several thrillers featuring paranormal investigator Miriam Black. He also wrote scripts and other material for comics, video games, television, and film, and authored books on writing and the craft of authorship. According to publisher biographies, impressions of rural Pennsylvania and Kentucky contributed substantially to his Wanderers duology.
