Christoph Ferber (born 1954) grew up in Sachseln in the canton of Obwalden and studied Slavic studies, Romance studies and art history in Lausanne, Zurich and Venice. He earned a doctorate in Venice with a dissertation on Russian Symbolism. He worked as a freelance translator and translated predominantly poetry into German from Italian, Russian, French, Polish and Bulgarian, including works by Eugenio Montale, Giorgio Orelli, Mikhail Lermontov and Stéphane Mallarmé. In 2014 he received the Translation Special Prize from the Swiss Federal Office of Culture, followed by the Paul Scheerbart Prize in 2016.
