C. S. Lewis (1898–1963), whose full name was Clive Staples Lewis, was an Irish writer and literary scholar. He taught at Magdalen College, University of Oxford, and from 1954 held the chair of Medieval and Renaissance English Literature at the University of Cambridge. He is best known for the children’s series *The Chronicles of Narnia*. During his time in Cambridge, he regularly met with the Inklings, a circle of friends that also included J. R. R. Tolkien.
