Bohumil Hrabal

Bohumil Hrabal (1914–1997) was a Czech writer. He was born in Brno and died in Prague. After studying law, he worked for the railway, as an insurance agent and traveling salesman, and in a steel mill and a waste-paper packaging plant. From 1963 onward, he devoted himself professionally to writing. His works include “Perlchen auf dem Grund,” “Dancing Lessons for the Advanced in Age,” and the autobiographical trilogy “Weddings in the House.”
