Blixa Bargeld was born in Berlin in 1959. In 1980, he founded the group Einstürzende Neubauten, becoming its singer and a leading figure. From 1984 to 2003, he played guitar with Nick Cave’s backing band, The Bad Seeds, of which he was also a founding member. Bargeld has also worked as a composer, author, actor, performer and lecturer. He composed music for films including Maria von Heland’s “Recycled” and, together with Einstürzende Neubauten, Hubertus Siegert’s “Berlin Babylon.” In 2005, he directed “Waiting for the Barbarians,” based on the novel by J. M. Coetzee, at the Salzburg Festival.
