Birgit Weyhe was born in Munich in 1969 and spent her childhood in Uganda and Kenya. She studied literature and history in Konstanz and Hamburg before studying illustration. She subsequently pursued a career as an illustrator and comic artist. Her graphic novels have been nominated for awards in Germany, France and Japan. Her work “Madgermanes” received the 2015 Comic Book Prize of the Berthold Leibinger Foundation and the 2016 Max and Moritz Prize for Best German Comic. In 2022, Weyhe received Hamburg’s Lessing Grant and was honoured as the best German-language comic artist. “Rude Girl” was shortlisted for Hamburg’s Book of the Year and became the first comic nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in 2023.
