Bettina Mittelacher worked as a journalist for more than three decades and specialized as a court reporter in covering criminal cases and trials. She wrote legal-affairs columns for the Hamburger Abendblatt and reported on cases including the acid-barrel murders, the attack on tennis player Monica Seles, the Eschede train disaster, and crimes against children. From 2016 onward, she also published books. Together with forensic pathologist Klaus Püschel, she wrote several true-crime books and two thrillers. Mittelacher is the great-great-great-granddaughter of the poet and lawyer Theodor Storm.
