Bert Hoppe, born in 1970 in Gevelsberg, Germany, is a German historian, journalist, and publishing editor. He studied history, economics, and art history in Berlin and Frankfurt (Oder). From 1999 to 2004, he worked as a research associate at Humboldt University of Berlin and earned his doctorate in 2004 with a study of relations between Moscow and the Communist Party of Germany, published in 2007 as “In Stalins Gefolgschaft. Moskau und die KPD 1928–1933.” He subsequently worked as a freelance scholar and author for publications and broadcasters including Berliner Zeitung, Deutschlandfunk, and Süddeutsche Zeitung. His research has focused on modern German and Soviet history, the Comintern, and the Holocaust in the territories occupied by the Soviet Union.
