Bernt H. Hoffmann (1911–1994) studied medicine and psychology in Hamburg, Lausanne, and Paris. He was a specialist in psychiatry and a psychotherapist, initially working in research and as a lecturer before practicing privately in Hamburg for almost 40 years. His regular courses in autogenic training formed the basis for one of his books.
