Beatrix Potter

Beatrix Potter (1866–1943) was an English children’s author and illustrator, as well as a natural scientist and conservationist. She began her artistic career by drawing greeting cards and natural-history subjects. Her best-known work, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, was published in 1902 and was written and illustrated by Potter herself. She went on to create numerous other children’s books featuring animal characters. Potter had a lifelong interest in animals, landscapes, and the natural environment of the Lake District.
