Beate Teresa Hanika, born in Regensburg in 1976, is an author and photographer. From 1997 onward, she worked for several years as a model in various European cities. She has published poetry, short stories, and novels for children, young adults, and adults. She began writing stories and poems at the age of ten. Her debut novel, “Rotkäppchen muss weinen,” received, among other honors, the Oldenburg Children’s and Young People’s Book Prize in 2007 and the Bavarian Arts Promotion Prize in 2009; it was also nominated for the German Children’s and Young Adult Literature Prize in 2010. “Das Marillenmädchen” was her first novel for adults.
