Batem

Batem, whose real name is Luc Collin, was born in 1960 in Kamina, Congo. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Châtelet and at the Saint-Luc Institute in Liège, and subsequently worked in Vittorio Leonardo’s studio. From 1982 onward, he published drawings in French magazines. He became best known as the artist of the Marsupilami comics, whose spin-off series began in 1987 after the character’s appearance in “Spirou et Fantasio.” He also worked on the series “Jacky Walker.” His pseudonym derives from the French word “baptême” (“baptism”).
