Barbara Kirchner

Barbara Kirchner studied chemistry in Freiburg, Mainz, and Chemnitz and completed her doctorate at the University of Basel. After research stays in Germany, Switzerland, and Australia, she took up the Chair of Theoretical Chemistry at Leipzig University in 2007. Her research included solvents and reactions, intermolecular forces, quantum-chemical calculations, and scientific software development. Kirchner edited several academic volumes, including “Ionic Liquids” and “Multiscale Molecular Methods in Applied Chemistry.” She also published articles in newspapers and magazines, one novel, and two books co-authored with Dietmar Dath.
