Augustine of Hippo, also known as Aurelius Augustinus, was born in 354 in Tagaste in Numidia and died in 430 in Hippo Regius. Both places are located in present-day Algeria. He was a major philosopher of late antiquity and, following his conversion, became an influential Church teacher and spiritual leader of the Christian Church.
