August Kopisch

August Kopisch (1799–1853) was a German painter, poet, and translator. Born in Breslau, he initially studied painting at the academies in Prague, Vienna, and Dresden. He later increasingly devoted himself to poetry and translated, among other works, Neapolitan comedies. He is best known for his poem “The Heinzelmännchen of Cologne.” Kopisch died in Berlin.
