Ariane Koch (born 1988 in Basel) studied fine arts, interdisciplinarity, philosophy and theatre studies in Basel and Bern. She writes plays, performance texts and prose, sometimes in collaboration with other artists. She was resident playwright at Lucerne Theatre in 2015/16 and held the same position at Theater Basel in 2022/23. Her debut novel, “Die Aufdrängung,” was published by Suhrkamp in 2021 and received the Aspekte Literature Prize that year as well as one of the Swiss Literature Awards in 2022. Her play “Die toten Freunde (Dinosauriermonologe)” won the Else Lasker-Schüler Playwriting Prize in 2022. Her other theatre works include “Extase” and “verdeckt.” “Die Aufdrängung” premiered at Theater Basel in the 2022/23 season and was also presented by Koch in a concert version with rock musician Nadja Zela.
