Antonio Damasio (born 1944) is a neuroscientist, neurologist, and psychologist. He was Professor of Neuroscience, Psychology, and Philosophy at the University of Southern California and director of its Brain and Creativity Institute. Damasio received numerous awards for his work and was, among other distinctions, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. His best-known nonfiction books include Descartes’ Error, Looking for Spinoza, and Self Comes to Mind. His books have been translated into more than 30 languages. In 2011, he received the Corine literary award for Self Comes to Mind.
