Annelies Schwarz was born in Bohemia in 1938. She studied education and fine arts in Hanover and Berlin and worked as a painter, teacher, and lecturer in drama and children’s theater. From 1981 onward, she wrote books for children, young adults, and adults. Her subjects include childhood after the Second World War, children from immigrant families in Germany, and Africa, including Ghana. Her novel “Meine Oma lebt in Afrika” was published by Beltz & Gelberg. In 2001, she received the Sudeten German Culture Prize for Literature. She published around 30 children’s and young adult books, which were translated into 13 languages.
