Anne Birkenhauer

Anne Birkenhauer, born in Essen in 1961, studied German and Jewish studies in Berlin and Jerusalem. She worked as a literary translator from Hebrew and translated works by authors including Aharon Appelfeld, David Grossman, Chaim Be’er, Daniella Carmi, Dan Pagis, and Yehuda Amichai. Her translations received the German-Israeli or German-Hebrew Translator’s Prize, the Paul Celan Prize, the Johann Heinrich Voss Prize for Translation, and the Albatros International Literature Prize. In 2018, she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
